One of the most forgotten spaces of most homes is the garage. People tend to place things there that they no longer use, and the place becomes a storage unit. Over time the garage fills up, and you may find you no longer even have room to put your car in there. Those people that want to utilize the space for something other than parking their car find that the space isn’t conducive to their needs. This can easily be fixed with a few updates though. Next time you’re considering remodeling your house, try these tricks to get your garage in shape as well.
Add Storage
No matter what you use your garage for, having the right storage can make it instantly appear tidier. You can install shelving units to the walls, or simply bring some in a place them strategically. Since many people put their tools in their garage, there are a lot of available tool boxes to help keep them out of the way. You can even hang shelves from the ceiling to store your holiday decorations. If you leave your bikes in your garage, you may even want to have a bike rack put in.
Fix the Floors
Most garage floors tend to be cracked and run down. Getting new floors installed will make your garage look brand new. Depending on the condition of your current floors, you may just be able to pain them; however, you might want to consider putting in something more durable. A popular option is Chicago epoxy flooring, which looks nice and is made to last. What you choose should depend upon what you plan to use your garage for. A home office won’t require heavy duty floors like a home gym might.
Install Plumbing
Many people are now choosing to use their garage for something other than just parking their car. If that is the case, you may want to have some plumbing installed. If you want to use it as another room, consider putting a bathroom in there as well. If you are just planning to use it as a workshop, you may only need a sink put in.
While you may be able to do some of the work yourself, consider hiring a contractor for the bigger jobs. The important thing is to know what you want before you get started. Do some research and look online at different garage remodels for inspiration.
